Apple tech support doing it right

I took my ailing first-generation Macbook Pro to the Apple Store because the keyboard and mouse failed, and I was sick and tired of taking it apart myself. I was told that this model of laptop along with the G4 powerbook has an approximate $200 parts, $100 labor flat rate for any and all repair. Sounded too good to be true, but I sent it in anyway. This was at 8PM on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. By Tuesday, my laptop was returned with:

  • New keyboard, trackpad, and top case (the metal plate the keyboard & speakers are part of
  • New logic board (motherboard)
  • New Airport card (wifi card)
  • New hinge

They essentially replaced everything but the screen, battery, and hard drive, giving me a brand new (but 5 years out of date) laptop. Total cost? $310. I think Apple will be keeping me as a customer.
