Craftsmanship
One theme that ran through all of Codeconf was the idea that successful, happy people and functional organizations that people want to be part of are dedicated to craftsmanship — in other words, doing something for its own sake and doing a good job because that’s what satisfies you. Wil Shipley’s talk was an appropriate way to wrap things up because it emphasized that you gain success by doing things well that help other people do things well, not by pursuing short-term novelty or exploitative gain.
