My current projects and how I feel about them:
My band, my beloved band. I feel really good about the music, about the band - but still gigs elude. I had one almost lined up, but it didn't fit with our drummer's schedule. Here's hoping that '08 will bring many live shows and local success.
I'm also making a little ambient electronica on the side - haven't come up with a good name to release it under though.
I recently made the happy discovery that some Radio Shack stores sell electronic parts from Parallax ...

I don't write in this thing enough because I am afraid I don't have the time to write something serious, or otherwise worth reading. Screw that - I will still post serious articles in this site, but the blog can be bloggy without causing me shame. In the spirit of less serious posts, here is a copy of my Favorites playlist on youtube up to today. There's not really a theme, videos represented here range from music videos new and old to living octupus legs on a plate to a laughing german midget.

I will be supporting the excellent group Phantom West (site, myspace) on guitar at their first show (i believe) and record release party on Sunday night. The band has an open guestlist, so if you tell me by Friday, you won't have to pay cover. We'll probably be on stage around 11.

In the past year or so, I've spent most of my music-making energy just playing my guitar in my idle times, experimenting with new song ideas, and stringing together notes into hour-long rambling jams. These are lonely and unfulfilling. Some months ago, I decided to take the phrases and figures that had lasted from these jams and form them into songs, with the ultimate goal of playing them in front of an audience. It's necessary that I start to "put myself ...

Japanese rockers Dir en Grey have been a favorite of mine for a long time, and I think their first three albums and tours were high points of visual rock and the aesthetic that is the focus of this blog. Their last few albums have been a departure from their older work in favor of a simpler formula. I personally find it less interesting, but their new sound has resonated with the screamo peddlers over at Warcon, who are giving the latest DeG album a US release.
