Japanese rockers Dir en Grey have been a favorite of mine for a long time, and I think their first three albums and tours were high points of visual rock and the aesthetic that is the focus of this blog. Their last few albums have been a departure from their older work in favor of a simpler formula. I personally find it less interesting, but their new sound has resonated with the screamo peddlers over at Warcon, who are giving the latest DeG album a US release.

Dir en grey’s music and lyrics have always expressed sentiments of sorrow and darkness, which has helped to maintain an intense and personal connection to their fans. This sentiment continues on Withering to death.. “In the process of producing this album, the word ‘Wither’ came to symbolize our work entirely, combined with the feeling of hurt and suffering that represents the band’s original concept.”
As I'm in the camp that misses their old sound and look, I have to crack up at their statement that "wither" applies to their recent music.
